OpenStreetMap owner and operator names that don't match any railroad yet. Those lines draw gray until you set the name to a railroad once: type its mark or name and press Set, and every line with that name takes that railroad's colors. Delete removes a name that shouldn't be there (for example two railroads typed into one field); each line keeps its railroad. Open on map shows the line.
Lines whose owner is a holding company (Genesee & Wyoming, Watco…) with no operator set. Where the line's own name or tags name the short line (e.g. "Kyle"), it's filled in for you: check it and press Set, or Set all found. Type one in where nothing was found. Mapping the holding company's own name would be wrong.
OpenStreetMap features are checked around the areas members have mapped. To check somewhere else too, enter a point (latitude, longitude).
Signals with no facing direction draw as a plain dot. Open one on the map and set its direction with Edit (Faces).
A member-added signal, junction or bridge within 15 m of an OpenStreetMap feature of the same type. "Merge into one" keeps the member's data and hides the OpenStreetMap copy (undo in the Live edits log).
Reported signal-bridge signals that look like one bridge (within 25 m, facing the same way, across the track) but aren't on a structure yet. Check a group on the map, then Group these. Nothing is grouped until you confirm. Grouped bridges and signals with no neighbor aren't listed.
Cantilevers whose base side isn't set yet. Open it on the map, then pick the compass side of the track its base stands on (only the two sides across the track can be picked). The foot draws on that side. Cantilevers with a base side aren't listed.
Edit every field directly — changes take effect immediately, the same as everywhere else on the live map.
Powers the railroad + number → model lookup in locomotive sighting reports.
Origins and destinations of train symbols that no town list, yard or facility on the map matches (mines, yards, small junctions). Until a place is set, its symbols draw their route from the end of a listed subdivision. Find the spot (Find opens a map search in a new tab), paste its latitude, longitude and press Set: every symbol naming it then routes from there. Most-used first.
Every symbol, any status — not just the pending-review queue above.
Paint lives directly on the locomotive roster now — this edits the same rows as the Locomotive roster tab, just focused on colors. Gives a specific road number (or a whole class/number range) its own colors on the map arrow and railroad badge for a heritage or anniversary scheme, or sets a whole railroad's own default look — including its default subdivision (track) color and its default locomotive tracker icon color, independently of each other — for when nothing more specific has been painted yet. Use "any" as the reporting mark to match regardless of railroad.
For a scheme that doesn't actually change the railroad's colors (e.g. an Operation Lifesaver badge — same NS paint, just different badge text). Locks the 7 color fields below to this railroad's own current default (set below, or the map's built-in default for the 8 major railroads), so they never drift out of sync if that default ever changes. Not available when the reporting mark is "any".
Comma, space, or line separated. Each key becomes a valid railroad_key for lines/yards/control points/roster rows, all sharing this scheme's colors — without needing its own scheme row.
What a "Use this railroad's default paint scheme" unit resolves to, and what a small railroad or branch line looks like before anything's been painted for it specifically. The 8 major railroads already have a built-in default; add one here to set — or override — any railroad's.
Until October 2, 2026, saving a card sent every field, so an unchanged Save or an approval could empty a field the form didn't show (a signal's number, its head type, an owner). Each row is a field that had a value before a save and was empty after it. Restore puts the old value back; it's logged here and can be undone.
